Traits
Character traits are the primary mechanic where fantastic characters are fleshed out and distinguish themselves from other characters with similar statlines. For each level a character has they have 2 Trait Slots to use. They are not obligated to use them up but there’s no reason not to. It does not matter at which level Traits are taken unless players are in a long game, where choosing the most immediately beneficial traits takes priority.
Hero Traits
Hero characters have a larger variety of Traits than monsters and can quickly become formidable when stacked together.
Equipment: Weapons, armor, kits, vehicles and allies taken as Traits allow for precise customization and never degrade nor can they be stolen. Most Heroes will have multiple pieces of permanent equipment rather than carrying more limited items that wear out or are consumed over time. Larger equipment like large vehicles or Headquarters may have their assets spread among multiple player characters.
Skills: Deceptively simple traits that increase the chances of successfully completing a single or variety of actions.
Abilities: Special traits like spells or special attacks, they all use Energy Points (EP) and are customized similarly to Equipment.
Monster Traits
Monster Traits are mostly augments that reflect their physical abilities, from how they move to magical effects beyond the reach of Heroes.
Augments: Some monsters come with extra limbs, multiple heads, horns, tails, wings or venom. This does not mean the character has to have these augments to look like they have these things, only that they must be taken to gain their effects.
Abilities: Just like Hero Abilities, these are customized Energy using techniques.
Assets: Monsters cannot use weapons, armor or similar equipment traits, but they can gather minions and build lairs in which to build their power.
